Dentist Career Mod

I tried to vary the skills necessary for promotions a bit more than the vanilla game generally does, to make it seem more realistic and to be more engaging and challenging. Feedback on that, or anything else, would be phenomenal.

You will need Scumbumbo’s XML injector in order for the mod to work. Just download that and this file into your mods folder and enjoy. Happy simming!

Track: Dentist
Cavities, cleanings, and root canals, oh my! Someone has to care for teeth, but that doesn’t always make other sims appreciative of your efforts. At least the work itself can be fascinating, and the pay is good. (10 levels)

Level 1: Janitor
Description:
Wouldn’t it be a magical world where you could just wake up and decide “I’ll be a dentist today”? But this is the real world, and it’s not like that. You start at the very bottom, which means scrubbing the toilets at the clinic while you study the basics of dental medicine and pray for a better opening higher up the ladder. Work on your logic and handiness would likely come in handy.

Level 2: Office Assistant
Description:
You’ve upgraded to answering phones and fixing paper jams. It’s a welcome change, but it’s not good enough. You have your eyes on the prize. You’ll need to know a little about computers in order to book appointments. Add a little charisma to your toolkit as well; you’ll need it to deal with aggravated patients still under the influence of numbing agents.

Level 3: Dental Assistant Intern
Description:
You are basically an assistant to the assistant, but redundancy aside, you are at least out of the office and into the thick of it. The majority of your job entails fetching tools and cleaning up after procedures. Work on your handiness skill will become more important here, as will keeping physically capable of staying on your feet all day.

Level 4: Dental Assistant
Description:
You are no longer shadowing a senior assistant. You are on your own. It’s more of the same, but with more responsibility. Keep studying, but don’t neglect your own needs. Managing stress is an important aspect of any medical profession, and denistry is no different.

Level 5: Dental Hygienist
Description:
After so long of just handing instruments to the higher-ups, you finally get to USE them on a patient! Sure, you’re mostly just using the scraper tool to relieve the patients of the gross stuff that gets stuck between the teeth, but at least you’re finally hands-on. A little work with photography will help with taking X-rays of the patient’s mouths, and make sure to keep your tools in perfect working order.

Level 6: Dentist Intern
Description:
Finally, you’re an actual dentist! At least you are, on paper. Experience is another story. You’re back to shadowing a superior as you learn the ropes. There’s far more paperwork than you could ever have imagined. That’s something you’ll need to tackle to progress, but don’t forget to take care of yourself in the meantime.

Level 7: Dentist
Description:
And here you are: a full-fledged dentist! Feel free to just settle into the position, but if you want to graduate from filling cavities to performing procedures that are ACTUALLY interesting, you’re going to have to buckle down and put in the work. Your bedside manner needs to improve, as well as your knowledge pool. And don’t neglect your fitness. It’s pretty rough on your back to be hunched over open mouths all day, after all!

Level 8: Orthodontist
Description:
Who wants to affix metal to children’s teeth to straighten them in a very uncomfortable and sometimes painful manner? Hopefully nobody. But who is going to do it? You. It’s not the most rewarding job you’ve ever had, but the pay is good, and if you keep working on your skills, you can advance away from treating mostly bite-y youngsters.

Level 9: Root Canal Specialist
Description:
Ah, the dreaded root canal. It is now your specialty. It’s no fun but it is a last resort to save the tooth, and you’re always ready to start drilling. Working all these long hours, you really need to make time for yourself, to just relax and unwind.

Level 10: Oral Surgeon
Description:
You’ve made it! Top of the top, cream of the crop. You are a reknown oral surgeon who gets the most difficult cases, the most severe congenital conditions and instances of injuries that have left your patient’s mouths mangled. It’s difficult but rewarding work, and the pay is nothing to sneeze at either. Congratulations!
